Whiteman Airman Dies Day After Shooting In Warrensburg
Senior Airman John Bottom, from Whiteman Air Force Base is dead, one day after a shooting occurred in Warrensburg according to a news release from the United States Air Force.
Senior Airman John J. Bottom was shot at an off-base residence in Warrensburg Saturday. Bottom was transported to a Kansas City hospital Saturday with critical injuries.
"We have lost a valued member of Team Whiteman," said Brig. Gen. Glen VanHerck, 509th Bomb Wing commander. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and all of Team Whiteman during this difficult time.”
Bottom was assigned to the 509th Security Forces Squadron.
The Johnson County Sheriff's office said in a news release a suspect is in custody.
The suspect allegedly fired a handgun inside the home early Saturday, striking Bottom. Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect.
