As it turns out, New York is not really the city that never sleeps.

A new study ranks which cities around the globe get the most and least sleep.

Most sleep in hours and minutes:

Melbourne, Australia - 7:05
London, England - 7:02
Denver, Colorado - 7:02
Brisbane, Australia - 7:00
Paris, France - 7:00

Least sleep in hours and minutes:

Tokyo, Japan - 5:46
Seoul, South Korea - 5:55
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - 6:32
Singapore, Singapore - 6:32
Mexico City, Mexico - 6:32

And while New York is known as the city that never sleeps, perhaps that title should be bestowed to another metropolis in the US: San Antonio. The Texas city is home to the people who get the least amount of shuteye in the States -- six, 40 minutes a night.

Getting solid sack time is essential. The Centers for Disease Control says people need seven hours of sleep a night, while 36% don't get that much.

These stats only tell part of the story, though. Here are some more fun facts:

  • Earliest to Bed: Brisbane, Australia – 10:57 p.m.
  • Latest to Bed: Moscow, Russia – 12:46 a.m.
  • Earliest to Rise: Brisbane, Australia – 6:29 a.m.
  • Latest to Rise: Moscow, Russia – 8:08 a.m.
