BMI has named Vince Gill the 2014 BMI Icon. The country star will be honored at the upcoming 62nd annual BMI Country Awards on Tuesday, Nov. 4, which celebrate songwriters and publishers of this year's greatest country hits.

The award is given to "songwriters who have had a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers," and Gill certainly fits that bill.

“The craft of a songwriter isn’t easy; however, Vince makes it look easy. He binds lyrics with music into timeless songs that have influenced musicians across all genres,” says BMI President & Chief Executive Officer Mike O’ Neill. “Vince Gill’s discography, in addition to his philanthropic endeavors in Nashville and beyond, represents the epitome of a BMI Icon, and we look forward to celebrating his accomplishments.”

Gill joins a highly-touted list of previous recipients, including Tom T. Hall, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Jr., Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn.

His musical accolades, among many, include 17 solo albums, with 'When I Call Your Name' and 'These Days' certified platinum , and 'When Love Finds You' certified quadruple platinum. He has sold more than 26 million records and accumulated more than 40 million radio performances, 20 Grammy awards, and six Academy of Country Music Awards.

The awards ceremony will be held Nov. 4 at BMI's Nashville offices. At the invitation-only event, the Country Songwriter and Song and Publisher of the Year will also be crowned.

Gill had an exciting summer. He became the proud grandpapa of his very first grandchild at the beginning of August. He'll also be featured on Michael W. Smith's Christmas album alongside country peers Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride and more.
