‘Vikings’ Renewed for ‘Unexpected’ Season 6, Katheryn Winnick Directing

Vikings Season 6 Renewed Katheryn Winnick
History

You’d be forgiven to lose track of History’s Vikings, what with their expansive orders airing in multiple parts each year. Season 5 will kick off this November, while History now confirms a 20-episode order for Season 6, and a familiar face behind the camera.

Ahead of Season 5 premiering its first half on November 29, Vikings is formally renewed for another twenty episodes in Season 6. The back half of Season 5 will air in 2018, meaning Season 6 is likely to premiere in fall of next year, and star Katheryn Winnick will make her directorial debut with one episode. Showrunner Michael Hirst also promises some major revelations to come with Season 6:

It has been my pleasure and my privilege to work with HISTORY and our partner MGM over five seasons and 69 episodes of ‘Vikings.’ Now we are ready to begin production of a 20 episode season six that will deliver a huge and unexpected revelation to our audience. There are many reasons why I love this show, not least for the commitment and creativity of everyone involved in making it, but perhaps even more important is the spirit that drives this production – one of the happiest, most collaborative and most authentic productions I have ever been involved with. And so we sail on.

It’s likely Seasons 5 and 6 will produce even more cast turnover and changes to the premise, especially since Season 4 brought us the end of Travis Fimmel’s Ragnar, and now expands to other portions of the world. You can watch the Season 5 trailer below, and stay tuned.
