This Monday (Sept. 9), Whiteman Air Force Base will welcome the USO tour, featuring the hard rock band Drowning Pool for a "B-2 Block Party." In conjunction to the concert there will be carnival rides, food, games and a mobile arcade from 5-9 p.m. The carnival rides and games will be available for unlimited use for only $5. The Drowning Pool concert is completely free to those with access to Whiteman.

This is the third time Drowning Pool has played for the USO tour and they love hearing stories from the men and women in uniform. The USO tour not only entertains the troops overseas, but also across the country. I like to think the USO gives the military a chance to take their mind off their normal schedules and give them either a taste of home or just to entertain them.

I am a very proud Air Force and military brat. My dad served 21 years in the Air Force and my mother served in the Air Force too. Through the military brat experience, I was able to do a lot of things that I don’t think we’d otherwise get a chance to do. One of the things I most enjoyed was attending the family events like the USO tour. I most remember Drowning Pool for the song “Bodies” and should definitely bring out the rockers to see them at Mission’s End.

I hope if you’re one of our great servicemen that you enjoy the fun and the show. If you’re a supporter of the military, also take the time to support the USO.
