According to a Sedalia Police Department accident report, around 9:00 Wednesday morning (September 7), the driver of a flat-bed trailer, Daniel Ott, of Warsaw, was driving northbound on Highway 65, when the cargo on the back of the trailer, struck the overpass bridge abutment and the cargo (a track hoe), was pulled off the trailer of the truck.

The track hoe was listed as a complete loss and Don's Towing was called to assist with loading and removing the track hoe from the road.

The track hoe had to be cut in half to clear it from the roadway.

The accident created a hazardous material spill, including diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid. Several agencies assisted with the clean-up, including The Sedalia Fire Department Hazmat Unit, MoDOT, the Department of Natural Resources, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Emergency Management Administration, and Sedalia Water Pollution Control.

According to the accident report, the clean-up took about three hours and the roadway is still very slick. Drivers are urged to use caution in the area, especially during rainy conditions.

According to the report, there are a few marks on the bridge abutment but the structure did not appear to be compromised.

There were no injuries reported in the accident.
