UCM Update

The Missouri Press Association recently named Sedalia Democrat News Editor and City Reporter Nicole Cooke the William E. James Missouri Outstanding Young Journalist of the Year. Cooke, 24, graduated from UCM in 2013 with a degree in public relations. During her time at UCM, she worked as news editor for digitalBURG and copy editor for the Muleskinner. Cooke started as the education reporter at the Democrat in August 2013, and has been the city reporter since May 2014, according to the newspaper.

Eight Central Missouri bowling student-athletes were named to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic Team earlier this week. Freshman Haley Richard highlighted the group with an appearance on the All-Academic Second Team, while seven teammates received All-Academic Honorable Mention.

Two-time national champion in the hammer throw Heavin Warner was awarded for her accolades in the classroom as she was named to the Capital One Academic All American Second Team in an announcement made Wednesday morning. Warner was selected for the award by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.
