UCM Update

The University of Central Missouri family mourns the loss of Dylan Austin, a student from Independence who passed away April 25 as the result of a skateboarding accident in Warrensburg. While university members continue to keep his family in their thoughts and prayers, memorial services are planned at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, Friday, May 1.

Dylan Austin’s family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., followed by the service. UCM also plans to celebrate his life with a memorial event at 4 p.m. Monday, May 4 at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Central Missouri track and field heads to St. Charles, Mo. for the 2015 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The three day event takes place on the campus of Lindenwood University May 1-3. Day one starts on Friday with the men's pentathlon and the women's heptathlon at 2 p.m. Saturday will see the conclusion of the multi-events at 10 a.m. Field events start at 1 p.m. with the first track events starting at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the final day, will crown team champions. The day gets underway with field events at 11 a.m. and track events at 11:30 a.m. 

After completing a 39-13 (21-5 MIAA) regular season, Central Missouri has finally been deemed one of the top-25 teams in the nation by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Jennies had been receiving votes in the last three polls and check in this week at No. 23. 
UCM won the MIAA last weekend for the first time since 2009 and their eighth conference crown overall. They'll play in the conference championship tournament this weekend as the No. 1 seed.  The Central Missouri Mules open MIAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed hosting sixth-seeded Nebraska-Kearney.

The best-of-three series gets underway tonight at 6 p.m. Game two will be tomorrow night at 6 p.m. and Saturday's "if necessary" game three will be at 2 p.m.
