Richard Herman, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Central Missouri, recently was named one of nine “Icons of Education” in Kansas and Missouri by Ingram’s magazine.  The Kansas City-based, monthly business publication made the announcement in its February 2015 issue. Herman was featured with higher education administrators from the University of Missouri, Kansas State University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, Washington University, Park University, Truman State University, Fort Hays State University, University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Once a standout college soccer player, Charles Ambrose, president of the University of Central Missouri, has an opportunity to have a positive impact on the sport at many levels through his participation in the National Soccer Summit.  It will address a broad set of health and safety issues across the full spectrum of competition from youth through professional play. It also will explore soccer as a model for lifelong wellness. Discussion about the epidemiology of injuries in amateur soccer, the academic habits and substance use habits of student-athletes, sports medicine and science practices and athletic development are among discussion items.

The 16th-ranked Mules got career-highs from Kyle Wolf and Preston Brunz as they outlasted Southwest Baptist 71-67 on Senior Day on Saturday. Wolf scored a career-high 23 points and Brunz tied his career-high with 17 in the win.  UCM is back in action on Wednesday night for the final home game of the regular season hosting Missouri Western at 7:30 p.m. 

The Jennies received five double-digit scoring performances, including two double-doubles from seniorsJustina Prairie Chief and Revonnia Howard, propelling Central Missouri to a 72-55 win over visiting Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon.  The Jennies return to action Wednesday, against Missouri Western at the Multipurpose Building. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m

In their final meet before the MIAA Indoor Championships, the UCM track and field team competed at the UCM Classic Friday evening. The final tune-up saw a number of first place finishes and PR's for both squads.

The Central Missouri Mules rebounded from a doubleheader sweep yesterday to earn a split in their four-game series at Fort Hays State with a doubleheader sweep on Friday afternoon at Larks Park. The Mules won the opener 5-2 and then held off a late Tiger rally to win the nightcap 7-5.

The Jennies softball team concluded their trip to St. Cloud Minn. and the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament with a pair of games against Augustana (S.D.) and Wayne St. (Neb.). The Jens were upended in both games though, as their record drops to 4-5 on the season.
