Staff Sgt. Mauricio Alejandro Arias, Whiteman Air Force Base, was awakened on June 14, 2014, for one of the most important events of his life—the birth of his second son at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Mo. He and his wife, Erin,  a staff sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, were the parents of another son, Tristan, so Arias was familiar with what was about to happen and the role he would play.  However, when Elijah Christopher Arias arrived later that day, Arias was not in the delivery room. Instead, he was in Afghanistan, serving his deployment with the U.S. Army National Guard. Although he wasn’t able to be physically present for his son’s birth, he witnessed it and participated in it via Skype, with internet technology and the efforts of the staff at WMMC and the University of Central Missouri making it possible.

After a three week run at the top, the Central Missouri Jennies track team fell a spot in the USTFCCCA Rankings to No. 2. The Mules made a big climb, leapfrogging five teams from their No. 13 ranking last week to No. 7 on Monday.  The Mules are back in the top-10 after falling out for one week. Their No. 7 ranking is the highest they've been since the first week of the regular season poll (Jan. 27) when they were also seventh.

The Mules Baseball team was set to open MIAA play this coming weekend, Feb. 20-22, at home against Fort Hays State. Due to the snow in the Warrensburg area and expected cold temperatures throughout the week, the series has been moved to Hays, Kansas.
