The University of Central Missouri Police Department and the Warrensburg Police Department's joint investigation in the discovery of an infant's body in a cave at Pertle Springs recreation area on March 4 has resulted in the arrests and filing of formal criminal charges against two individuals.

Based on current evidence, Latasha Wilson, 19 Warrensburg, was formally charged with Abandonment of a Corpse, a class D Felony, and Zakary Carter, 20 Warrensburg has been formally charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a class D Felony.

Authorities await the results of the autopsy and will continue to further investigate to determine if additional charges will be filed.

The arrests are a result of the community responding to the request for assistance posted in the media, and the partnership of UCM Police, Warrensburg Police and the Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney.
