Two pedestrians were struck in a five-vehicle accident in the parking lot of Woods Supermarket on Saturday morning.

Sedalia Police say that emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:15 a.m. According to police, the driver of a 1988 Buick was backing out of a parking space and accidentally applied the accelerator. The Buick backed across the parking lot at a high rate of speed and collided with a 2005 Chevrolet pickup, and struck the pickup's owners, who were unloading groceries.

The Buick continued across the parking lot and collided with a parked 2007 Lexus SUV before coming to rest. In total, five vehicles sustained damage in the accident.

Police say one of the pedestrians struck was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center, and then taken by Air Evac to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries. The other pedestrian was treated at Bothwell for minor injuries. A passenger in the Buick was also transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment of a minor head injury. The driver of the Buick complained of neck pain, but declined treatment at the scene.

Names of those involved in the accident were not released. The Sedalia Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate the incident.
