The Trails End Project is officially underway at the corner of 16th Street and Highway 65. The Trails End Committee held an official groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday afternoon (April 16).

Trails End Project Coordinator Ed Watkins was pleased with the turnout for the groundbreaking ceremony.

"It's a great day for Sedalia, it's a great victory for the people in Sedalia that made this happen," said Watkins. "We're standing on ground right now that's going to do be identified in the future as America's first trails end."

The Trail's End Project is a two phase project, and it is hoped that both phases will be done by Oct. 1, 2014. The first phase will involve the development of the plaza, which will feature bronze statues, railroad cars, windmill, the water tower and the wall that will encircle the design. The second phase will be the making of a parking lot, listening kiosk and learning center.
