Tim McGraw has just scored a No. 1 hit with his latest single, "Humble and Kind," and the message behind the song is more than just words to the country superstar. He recently reached out to make things brighter for a fan who is facing the battle of a lifetime.

Benn Banks is battling Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, which, according to the Oral Cancer Foundation, is "an uncommon form of malignant neoplasm that arises within secretory glands, most commonly the major and minor salivary glands of the head and neck."

Banks has been undergoing treatment and is involved with a clinical trial in Houston that requires him to make a 10-hour drive each week, where he has to stay for as long as three nights. Each treatment costs $330, with his total medical expenses totaling from $5,000 to $20,000 each month, and he's been trying to raise part of that money through a GoFundMe campaign.

In a post to Facebook on Thursday night (April 14), Banks says he was at a low point recently after a particularly tough time with his health, when he came across news reports of McGraw's stunning ACM Awards performance of "Humble and Kind."

"That song was the mental break that I needed," he writes. "It brought me back to another time and another place. It brought me back to his concert with my wife a couple days before surgery, and a couple days before my life changed forever."

Banks posted to McGraw's Facebook to thank him for the inspiration, and he was stunned when McGraw shared his post with his social media followers along with a link to his GoFundMe page. He also messaged Banks privately to get his address, and sent him a personal note, a book and two scarves in the mail.

"I am sure that he has people that could have sent me a tour hat or a signed picture or something generic," Banks says. "However, he took the time to figure out that I wear a scarf every day to cover up my laryngectomy and he made what he sent personal to me along with a card where he spelled my name right which NEVER happens."

The simple act of generosity and kindness has helped to really bolster Banks' faith in people.

"What Tim did for a complete stranger is so far above and beyond kind that people need to know about it," he writes, adding that he shares his own struggles with his disease to help inspire strength in others. "So today be kind my friends. Pay kindness forward. Thirty seconds of kindness can change someone else's life forever."
