Thomas Rhett bid adieu to 2016 in Times Square on Dick Clark's New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest, and after that, his first order for 2017 was to surprise his fans with something new. The Grammy-nominated country star has released a music video for "American Spirit," one of the tracks on the deluxe version of his sophomore record, Tangled Up.

"American Spirit" is not officially a single from Rhett, but because he loves the song, the singer decided to make a music video to accompany it, "just to share with our fans."

""American Spirit" is one of my favorite songs to sit down and play on an acoustic guitar,” Rhett says in a press release. “So, I knew I wanted to make a video for it … I knew I wanted it to be simple and something that would pull on the heartstrings, and I think it’s the perfect blend of that."

The "American Spirit" clip was shot outside of Nashville, and directed by TK McKamy, who also directed Rhett's recent "Star of the Show" music video, as well as his videos for "Die a Happy Man," "Crash and Burn" and more. It features quintessential American images, Rhett playing his acoustic guitar and a beautiful big barn; it's laid back and heartwarming, but instills a bit of American pride. In February, Rhett will hit the road for his first-ever headlining trek, the Home Team Tour.
