The Ups and Down of Winter Storms

Winter StormWinter finally made a big encore performance and it was a blessing.  It may be a pain and we may complain about it, but the farmers and lakes really need the water.  I think this added about three inches of moisture to the ground with both storms combined.  We are still well below the norm, but every little bit helps.  The storm brought a lot of trees down and left a lot of people without power.  Thank you to all of the crews that were out there during the storm trying to keep up with all of the problems.

Now, let’s talk about the good stuff.  We saw a lot of families (not just kids, but entire families) out building snowmen, forts and snow animals.  That’s cool, really cool, no pun intended.

Fishing had been good prior to the first storm.  I haven’t heard how it’s been since the storm, but it won’t hurt the fishing.  Also, our turnip patches that seemed hardly touched by the deer this year are their favorite spot now.  They’ve been tearing it up since the snow came, at least 10-20 of them every morning, and it’s great.  I wish we would have had some late season snow this year, but that’s why it’s called “hunting” and not “killing.”  More left for next year.

The turkeys are struggling with the deep snow, but I hope they make it out without any issues because earlier this year was one of the best hatches I’ve ever seen.  Let’s hope they survive the snow.

There are a lot of events coming up in March.  We’re heading to Columbia this weekend for the Missouri Deer Classic.  It’s going to be an awesome show, so come check us out with the United Bow Hunters of Missouri.  I’m looking forward to hanging out with everyone.  We’ll be selling the rest of the tickets for the Henry Lincoln Addition .22 and will draw and announce the winner when we sell 100 tickets.  We only have 44 tickets left.  Also, next week is the Whitetails Unlimited Deer Competition on Saturday in Columbia.  Speaking of Columbia, the Luke Bryan concert last Saturday was awesome, and we had a lot of fun with family and friends.

This Sunday is the State Fair Archery 3D Shoot, but watch their Facebook page for cancellations.  Next Sunday is Montrose, so look forward to no snow and another great shoot.

The Mid-Mo Outlaws Kick-off Party was great last night.  They are having a ticket blitz soon, so remember to get your tickets early for the best prices.  The Outlaws will be on our show prior to each home game and will be having all sorts of special events, so keep listening for more details.

It’s going to be a busy spring, so stay tuned for updates on any and all outdoor events.  Thanks for listening and remember to thank a veteran for the freedoms we enjoy every day.  I am proud to be an American and and live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
