Owning and operating a small business isn't easy. Even getting started with a small business is a chore. It's somewhat easier or harder to start a small business depending on where you live. The rankings for 2017’s Best & Worst Small Cities to Start a Business are out, and one of the Top 5 cities in the U.S. is right up the road!

WalletHub put together the list based on "16 key metrics ranges from average growth in number of small businesses to investor access to labor costs." WalletHub says the Top 5 for 2017 are: Holland, MI; Carbondale, IL; Springfield, UT; East Chicago, IN and...Jefferson City, MO.

Maryland Heights, St. Peters, Cape Girardeau and Lee's Summit also ranked within the Top 50 on the nationwide list. Cape Girardeau was fourth on the list in the category of "cheapest office spaces." Raytown (overall ranked 171) also did well in that category.

Over 1200 cities were evaluated for the list. The bottom five cities all came from California: Saratoga, Castro Valley, Pacifica, Eastvale and Suisun City.
