Dr. Jennifer Holland, assistant principal at Smith-Cotton Junior High School, will leave Sedalia School District 200 at the end of the current academic year to become the lead curriculum developer and professional development consultant for the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (INCCRRA), the accrediting agency of early childhood education in Illinois.

Last week, the Smith-Cotton High School boys played in the McDonalds's Classic Basketball Tournament, and this week, it's the girls turn as the games get started on Thursday night (Jan. 23).

The Project SEARCH High School Transition Program is a unique, business led, one year school-to-work program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Total workplace immersion facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on training through worksite rotations.

Smith-Cotton High School's robotics team "Team SCREAM" has been awarded a $5,000 grant from NASA for the second year in a row. At noon, on a windy Friday (Nov. 8), a group of Sedalians, dignitaries and Smith-Cotton High School students gathered around the northwest corner of the future site of the new stadium.

Head Football Coach Mark Johnson from Sedalia's Smith-Cotton High School announced on Thursday night (Nov. 8) that he will retire from coaching after 33 years.

On Saturday (Nov. 2), the Smith-Cotton JROTC Raider Team competed in Molena, Georgia for the National Championship title. The Raider Team has had a good season this year with many adversities and accomplishments.  The Raider Team has worked all season for the moment when they could rise above their competitors and once again earn the title of Raider National Champions.

Unfortunately, Missouri and Pettis County has a drug problem. I think we've all heard it in the news or seen it on the streets. Meth is a problem. I just got some unfortunate news regarding the Sedalia Halloween this year.  I'm sure it won't be the end of Halloween as we know it, but it will certainly be something that will disappoint parents out there in our area. The Smith-Cotton DECA Trunk-or-Treat will not be happening.

I know a lot of you always look forward to some of the photos I take during an event. You don't know how much that really touches my heart. I hope you really enjoy this series. Not only because it is of the Homecoming Parade, but it is from my point of view since I am on my class reunion's float...
