If nothing else, the 12 songs on 'New to This Town' -- the first solo album from Kix Brooks in 23 years -- serve as reminder that we really don't know the mustachioed half of Brooks and Dunn very well. The project is is downright rowdy, and Brooks is a more colorful singer than he showed on songs like 'Lost and Found.'

The singer didn't want to be difficult, but he didn't think the mood of his first solo album in 23 years matched what he thought the nation would be feeling on the 11th anniversary of the New York City and Washington D.C. terrorist attacks. In the end, he decided he was wrong, leaning on a decision he and Ronnie Dunn made just days after the original tragedy.

Longtime duet partners Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn are on the same ballot for induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Both are nominated in the Songwriter/Artists category, but only one can be inducted. There’s no guarantee either will be picked, however.
