Downtown

The Sedalia City Council held a special meeting Monday night (Oct. 29) to present a draft for an ordinance on mandatory building inspections for downtown buildings. Following a presentation of the ordinance by Sedalia City Administrator Gary Edwards, Sedalia Mayor Elaine Horn asked for comments from the downtown building owners in attendance.

The City of Sedalia held an open meeting on Tuesday evening (Oct. 1) regarding Phase lll of the Streetscape project. The project includes the arch that will be built just off Broadway on South Ohio. The informational meeting brought out downtown merchants whose businesses will be affected by the construction project.

This weekend is the Criterium Bike Race in historic Downtown Sedalia. The high speed downtown bicycle race has had as many as 200 entries in the past and takes place this Saturday on a 0.7 mile course. Crews have blocked off South Ohio Avenue between 2nd Street and southbound to Gazebo Park in downtown Sedalia in preparation to demolish several buildings damaged by a fire on Dec. 14, 2012.  The demolitions comes at the recommendation of an engineer who deemed the buildings unstable and dangerous.

The Sedalia Fire Department responded to a fire at 208 Ohio St. in downtown Sedalia early this morning (Dec. 14). As of 8:00 a.m. this morning, fire crews were still working to put out the blaze.

It was a perfect afternoon for a parade. The sun that had been hiding all day decided to come out just in time for the Sedalia Police to lead the procession.  You can view the photos from the parade here.

The Sedalia City Council has approved a bid to finish the demolition of buildings located at 203 and 204 West Main Street. The decision was made at a city council meeting on Monday evening (September 24).

There was a lot to do in Sedalia over the weekend.  The Art Festival downtown, Kids Fishing with a Vet/Hunting & Fishing Harry and the H.O.G. rally had events too.  At the end of the Bike Parade, the intersection of 5th and Ohio was roped off and became a beer garden. That's when Tyler Farr took the stage.
