A combination of turnovers, missed opportunities and a 2nd quarter offensive barrage of points put up by the Nixa Eagles led to an opening season loss 47-7  for the Smith-Cotton football Tigers Friday night in Nixa.

The Tiger’s offense sputtered numerous times in the first quarter after been given opportunities due to three turnovers by the Eagles.  Both teams traded turnovers in the 2nd quarter until Nixa struck on five consecutive scoring drives to take a 33-0 lead at half time.  The Tigers could manage only 72 total yards in the first half.

The second half was fast paced due to the continuous clock running through most of the final 24 minutes.  The Tigers scored their only touchdown midway through the 4th quarter on an athletic 35 yard run by Junior, Henry Contreras.

Nixa’s Senior QB, Austin Schweiss, was 7 for 10, two TD’s for 185 yards, while also running for two touchdowns as well to lead the way for the Eagles.  Nixa led the Tigers in total yards, 467 to 191.  Smith-Cotton’s leading rusher was Junior transfer, Chance McMullin, with 53 yards.
