Carolyn Hays of the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation presents a grant check for $500 to Smith-Cotton Junior High English language arts teacher Missy Arnold on Wednesday in front of the school. They are joined by fellow ELA teachers Johnna Rocker-Clinton and Lisa Young, along with some of their students. The grant funds will be used to purchase book sets that will be shared by about 360 students and used in small book groups. The MRT Foundation, the charitable arm of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association, received about 250 applications this year and awarded 56 grants.
