Ryan Boyer has been named the new head football coach at Smith-Cotton High School. Boyer has been on the coaching staff at Smith-Cotton for the last five years. He served as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Boyer is excited about the opportunity to take over the Smith-Cotton Tiger football team. He's s a local guy who grew up in Warsaw and graduated from Warsaw High School in 2004. He went on to play college football at Central Methodist University where he lettered all four years and was named a captain his senior year. Boyer graduated in 2009 from Central Methodist with a degree in physical education/health.

During a press conference today (Jan. 30), Boyer took to the podium with a smile on his face. "First, I want to thank the Sedalia school district for this opportunity," Boyer said. "This is an exciting time for the Smith-Cotton football program, and I am looking forward to working with the community and all of our players."

A few of the hot topics at the press conference were the new stadium being built behind the high school and the importance of getting back to winning ways for the Tigers. Boyer acknowledged the importance of both. "We have the athletes and the talent to be successful, and adding in the new stadium will make it a special year," said Boyer.

After 15 years under Mark Johnson, the Tigers football team will have a new head coach. Boyer wants to think of it as a fresh beginning for Smith-Cotton, saying: "I want to thank my family, the community and the district for their support. This is a fresh beginning, a new start for Smith-Cotton football, and I look forward to getting into the community to introduce myself and share my excitement for Tigers football."
