As the 2017 ACM Awards approach, there's been a rumbling of rumors about this year's surprise guests — like maybe Shania Twain? The former Caesars Palace headliner is hard at work on her forthcoming album, due out later this year, so a performance of her forthcoming single "Triumphant" would make sense.

The awards show airs live Sunday night (April 2) from Las Vegas, and since Twain has been promising new music, it would be a perfect opportunity to debut her new single. While there has been no confirmation from Twain or the ACM's camp, a story by the Las Vegas Review-Journal has churned the mill.

A list of planned performers for the 2017 ACM Awards includes a number of collaborations — Tim McGraw with Faith Hill, Keith Urban with Carrie Underwood — but still plenty of room to squeeze in a legend like Twain, surprising both viewers at home and the crowd inside Vegas' new T-Mobile Arena.

Twain will pop up elsewhere this year if not at the ACMs. She's set to headline Stagecoach with Dierks Bentley and Kenny Chesney on April 29 in Indio, Calif. Starting June 26, an exhibit in her name will be open at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.

In an interview with Billboard late last year, the singer discussed her new music in depth, admitting that she hopes to please her loyal fans when the album — her first since 2002 — is finally released.

"I hope they can expect to be satisfied. I hope I exceed their expectations. I know it's been a long time," Twain says. "There's so much evolution that's happened over these years."
