SEDALIA—The State Fair Community College Theatre Arts Program will present Larry Shue’s hilarious comedy “The Nerd” April 15-19 in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus.

Aspiring architect Willum Cubbert has often told friends about the debt he owes Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI he has never met but who saved his life after he was wounded in Vietnam. He has written to Rick saying that as long as he is alive, “You will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you.” But when Rick shows up unexpectedly the night of Willum’s 34th birthday, his delight fades when he realizes Rick is a hopeless nerd—a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact. When Rick stays on and on, his presence leads to one uproarious incident after another until the normally placid Willum finds himself contemplating violence, a dire development that happily is staved off by the surprising twist ending.
The performance is rated PG. It is not suitable for children.
