This Saturday night (Feb. 22) the State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners and Roadrunners finish out their regular season at home versus Region 16 opponent, Mineral Area Community College. The Lady Roadrunners play at 5:30 p.m. and Roadrunners at 7:30 p.m.

Both the men's and women's teams are ranked #1 going into the Region 16 Basketball Tournament and according to SFCC officials, this is the first time both teams are ranked #1 going into the Region Tournament.

This Saturday night is also Homecoming and Sophomore Night, where fans can salute players and cheerleaders one last time at the Davis Center.

SFCC Lady Roadrunners are 17-8 on the season and 8-1 in Region 16 play. SFCC won the first matchup of the season, 71-64 on Jan. 25 in Park Hills. “It was a close game at their place,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “We want to make sure that we end things the right way on our floor with this game being Homecoming. They are very aggressive and athletic. Mineral Area usually shoots the ball pretty well.”

SFCC is 21-6 overall and 7-0 in Region 16 play this year. SFCC won the first meeting this season on Jan. 25 in Park Hills 75-72 and Coach Kevin Thomas expects a fast tempo game.

“Mineral Area is going to try to get the game going fast,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “They do a good job of switching defenses, trapping, pressing and trying to keep you on your toes. We’re going to have to be ready to handle that. I think if we can control the tempo and the glass we should be okay.”

If you can't make it to the Davis Center to cheer on the Roadrunners, you can listen to the game on Newstalk 1050 KSIS with Kaleb Filis bringing you the play-by-play on the air and online too.
