Sex Offender Arrested at Katy Park

Early Friday morning, Sedalia Police arrested a 35-year old Columbia man, after checking on a vehicle at Katy Park and discovering he was a registered sex offender; not allowed within 500-feet of a public park.

A report from the Sedalia Police Department says officers checked on the the vehicle around 4:18 a.m.

According to the report, the vehicle was occupied and the investigation revealed one of the occupants was a sex offender and prohibited from being within 500-feet of a public park.

The suspect, 35-year old Douglas W. Shoemaker, of Columbia, was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail.

Online records from the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicate Shoemaker had committed deviate sexual assault against a 42-year old victim in Pettis County, in 2002.

Charges of Trespassing and Violating a Public Park Loitering Restriction, are being submitted to the state prosecutors office.
