The long, long wait for word of new Sense8 finally abated with news of a Christmas special, and 2017 premiere for Season 2. Now, cluster around our first new footage since 2015, as the sensates reunite in a first trailer for the two-hour holiday special.

We hope you like covers of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” because that’s what you’re getting! In either case, it’s unclear how much the two-hour special will serve as prologue to Season 2's May premiere, or its own story, though certainly a number of plot points from the first season get picked up. And yes, Sun gets the chance to kick more ass.

In addition to all ten episodes of Season 2 launching on Friday, May 5, you can find the synopses for both below:

Sense8: A Christmas Special
The journey continues as these eight singular hearts and minds weave in and out of each other’s lives finding deeper connections, learning darker, more desperate secrets about one another and struggling to identify with more than just oneself.

Season Two
Picking up where season one left off, Capheus (Toby Onwumere), Kala (Tina Desai), Lito (Miguel Angel Silvestre), Nomi (Jamie Clayton), Riley (Tuppence Middleton) , Sun (Donna Bae), Will (Brian J. Wright) and Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) come together both physically and mentally, plunged into the middle of each other’s tragedies and triumphs. On the run from Whispers (Terrence Mann), and forced to question their very identity, it’s a matter of survival as the Sensates must find a way to live with, understand and protect one another against all odds.

Elsewhere, we know that the next run will see the departure of star Aml Ameen, as well as Wachowski sibling Lilly, leaving Lana in a solo directing position. Lilly sat out the season to “focus on her well-being” after coming out as transgender, and may return for a potential third season.

For those unfamiliar, Sense8 follows eight characters around the world who find themselves mentally and emotionally linked in the aftermath of a mysterious death. Its cast includes Daryl Hannah, LOST star Naveen Andrews, Brian J. Smith (Stargate: Universe), Tuppence Middleton (Jupiter Ascending), Jamie Clayton, Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who), Indian actress Tena Desae, South Korean actress Doona Bae, German actor Max Riemelt, Mexican actors Alfonso Herrera and Erendira Ibarra, as well as Miguel Silvestre and Terrence Mann.

We’ll see for ourselves soon, but stay tuned for the latest on Sense8 in 2016 and beyond.
