Here's a look at the events going on in our area this weekend. 

The Sedalia Parks and Recreation are hosting a community dance.

It’ll be held on October 10 at the Liberty Park Convention Hall with music from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. provided by John Cecilia and the Country Ordaras.

The Smith Cotton JROTC will be hosting their 10th annual JROTC Raider meet on Saturday, October 11.

The event will be held from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be sixteen teams competing on the Missouri State Fairgrounds in the Matthewson Exhibition Center. The events will include the Army Physical Fitness test, One Rope Bridge, 10K road march, Raider challenge course, Leadership Reaction Course, Biathalon, and the and the One Mile Ruck run. Crest Ridge Project Graduation is going to have a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament.

Oct. 11, 2014 at 6 p.m. Appetizers will be included in the ticket price. Tickets are $35 prior to the day of the event and $40 at the door. 1st place $500 (with minimum 75 players). Pays out top 3 places. There will be a Chip Raffle, Add Ons and Rebuys and a Final Seat Auction. All proceeds benefit the Crest Ridge Class of 2015 Project Graduation. The event will be held at the Granary Tap House Bar and Grill on Pine street in Warrensburg, Mo. You can buy tickets at Conoco on 50 hwy in Centerview before the event.

20th Annual Wilderness Lodge Youth Waterfowl Clinic and Hunt  takes place on the second and fourth Saturdays in October.

The two-part workshop Oct. 11 and 25 is open to participants age 9 through 15. First-time participants will spend the first Saturday of the event learning about waterfowl hunting rules, safety and calling, duck identification and retrieving-dog training. They will also practice wing shooting and learn how to choose the right combination of shotgun and ammunition for ethical, effective hunting. The program will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The second Saturday will be devoted to a guided waterfowl hunt. Breakfast and lunch will be provided both days, and all activities are free of charge, courtesy of Everhart’s Wilderness Lodge, members of the former West Side Missouri Waterfowl Association, Missouri Department of Conservation, Truman Lake National Wild Turkey Federation, Everhart’s Outdoor Store, Clinton Wal-Mart, and the Kansas City Chapter Safari Club International. This portion of the event will run from 6 a.m. until noon. Everhart’s Wilderness Lodge is at 651 NW Highway O, 6 miles northwest of Clinton. The Sacred Heart Bazaar will take place October 11 and 12 at the Sacred Heart School.

Events for Saturday include a 5k walk/run and kids fun run at 8 a.m. The check in will be from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. in front of the school. The entry fee is $20 before September 29, and includes a t-shirt. After September 29 to the race day, the entry fee is $25. The kids fun run will be held after the 5k awards. That is a $10 entry fee, includes a t-shirt and a ribbon. For more information, call Carrie at 660-287-3113.
At 3 p.m there will be a Texas Hold Em Tournament. Check in is at 2:30 p.m. You must be 21 to enter. Entry fee is $40, with a one time buy back in for $40. Cash prizes will be available. For more information, call Bryan at 660-221-5034.
From 4-7 p.m. there will be a fried chicken and ham dinner with all the trimmings, including dessert. Advance tickets are $10, $5 for kids aged 6-12, and five year olds and under eat for free. Advance tickets are available at the rectory. Tickets at the door cost $2 more.
At 7:00 p.m. there will be an auction. Silent auction will run from 4 to 9 p.m. It’ll be held in the High School Gym. The craft booth will be open.  Register online for any of the events at gogremlins.com.
Events for Sunday, October 12 include carnival games, a country store, craft booth, bingo, cake walk, and more from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The silent auction will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the gym. The fried chicken and ham dinner will resume on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call the rectory office at 660-827-2311 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

There will be a breakfast at the American Legion on Saturday, October 11.

The doors open at 2016 West Main street from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. They’ll have sausage, eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, juice and coffee for a cost of $6 for adults, and $3 for children under the age of five. Delivery is available for two or more breakfasts. Call 827-2750.

The Johnson County Christian Academy will have a Walk and Run.

The Kingdom 5 5k walk and 10K run is open to everyone. Register now online at www.active.com. Just search “Warrensburg, Kingdom5 5k/10k”. It’ll take place on October 11 with a 9 a.m. start. The run and walk will begin at Happy Days Dream Cars, 812 East Young in Warrensburg. For more information, call 660-624-2869.

The Lamine River Hunt Club will host their Pickin at the Park Swap Meet.

It’ll take place at the Otterville City Park on October 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You can buy, sell, swap or barter farm produce, crafts, baked goods, small animals, tools, guns, and fishing supplies. The cost for a booth is $20, no charge for non profits. All consignors and buyers are welcome, and there will be food and drink concessions on the grounds. There will a baby contest for ages 0-5 at 10:00 a.m. with sign in at 9:30 a.m. They’ll also have a puppy parade at noon. In conjuction with the Cole Camp Oktoberfest, the Missouri Master Naturalist and Missouri Prairie Foundation present Prairie Day.

This will take place on Saturday, October 11 starting at 10 a.m. There will be nature photography, demonstrations, activities, a scavenger hunt, storytelling, bird banding and crafts, hands on reptiles, mammal and stream stations, hayrides and face painting. Then that evening at 5:00 p.m. join the Missouri Prairie Foundation for “An Evening on the Prairie” with music, refreshments and stargazing with the Kansas City and Camden County Astronomy Associations. Members of the UCM Management of Organizations class will be hosting a Food Drive.

The food will go to the Warrensburg Food Center this Saturday, October 11th from 10am-6pm at Woods Supermarket in Warrensburg. Most needed items include: canned vegetables & fruit, canned soup, cereal, pancake mix, syrup, peanut butter, cake mix, macaroni & cheese.

The Sedalia VFW Post 2591 presents comedy ventriloquist Johnnie Price.

Dinner will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a choice of meatloaf or baked ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans or corn with a roll and dessert. The show starts at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices for the dinner are $5, and for the show $5. Tickets can be bought at the door or get them at the post, 121 South Ohio. For questions, call 826-4543.

The Sedalia Business Women will hold their 33rd Annual Chicken Dinner.

It’ll be held on Sunday, October 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Shrine Multipurpose Building, 1615 Elm Hills Blvd. Tickets are available from all SBW members, Don’s Truck Towing, and MHC/Certified Public Accountants. Ticket price (includes dessert) for adults : $10, children aged 3 to 10 years, $5, and children under three eat for free. Tickets are available at the door and from Buckley and Buckley, Don’s Truck Towing, Moore’s Greenhouse, and from all SBW Members. For take out orders, call 221-1804. Proceeds benefit CASA, Child Safe, and Meals on Wheels.

 PIE auction for the Lutheran School Association in Cole Camp  October 12.

The Free Will Smoked pork and turkey dinner will begin at 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The silent auction will begin at 10:30 and continue to 1:00 p.m. The live auction will begin at 12:15. The event will take place in the Schnell Auditorium.

Cole Camp Boonslick Regional Library is hosting our regular Pokemon League meeting on Sat. the 11th and Sat. the 25th from 10 – 12.

The Longwood Presbyterian Church will host a Lord’s Acre sale.

It will be held at the church, with lunch beginning at 11 and the sale beginning at 12 on October 11. Longwood is located appropriately 15 miles north of Sedalia on US 65 Highway, turn east on BB and drive 3 and 1/4 miles. The church is on the south end of the town.
