The Elks support our nations’ veterans annually with a deer hide collection program.

These hides are cured and delivered to a tannery. Once tanned, the hides are then turned into leather gloves made by veterans of the United States Armed Services. Once produced, the Elks sell these gloves and donate the proceeds to various charitable veterans’ programs throughout the United States. The state of Missouri has now been #1 in the nation for the past two years beating out Iowa for the most hides collected toward this fine program. Please help us continue to support our nations’ veterans by contributing your hides to us. The hides simply need to be skinned from the deer, have the neck and legs cut off, and contact an ELK VETERANS SERVICES committee member immediately before they start to spoil. The committee members will collect them, salt cure them, and store them until the end of all deer hunting seasons.

Locally, you can contact the following individuals: Chris Spence (Chairman): 660-619-3445 Ellis Tilman: 660-553-1944 or Doug Tilman: 660-287-0496

The Sons of the American Legion post 642 are having a membership drive.

Through the months of November and December, if you are eligible, you may join the SAL for only $15.  This price is half off the regular membership price of $30.  This offer is for new membership only (no renewals at that offer).  Stop by and get an application at 2016 West Main or call the American Legion Post 642 at 827-2750.

The need for animal food and supplies at the Sedalia Animal Shelter continues as winter approaches, but donations often decrease as the holidays near.

To help, we at the Thompson Hills Animal Clinic are conducting our Fourth Annual Pet Food Drive for the Sedalia Animal Shelter through the end of November.  Donations of dog and cat food, blankets, laundry soap, and bleach to aid in the operation of the local animal shelter are encouraged. Convenient drop off locations for your donations are at Thompson Hills Animal Clinic across from West Lake Ace Hardware at 1201 Thompson Blvd or at the shelter, 2900 West Main St.  During this season of thanks, remember the cats and dogs looking for permanent homes, temporarily housed in the Sedalia Animal Shelter. The drive runs from November 1stthrough the 30th.  Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated.

For more information, contact Debbie Spalding or Dr. Chad McNeal at Thompson Hills Animal Clinic, 1201 Thompson Blvd, Sedalia.  Call 827-5310
Have a great weekend!
