Sedalia’s Weekend Events: Weekend of November 21

Here's a look at some of the stuff going on this weekend!

Members of the State Fair Community College Theatre Arts program will present the out-of-this-world children’s musical “Awesome Allie: First Kid Astronaut” .

It'll be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 22 for the public in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus. The show is suitable for young audiences. All tickets are $5 and may be purchased online at www.sfccmo.edu/thearts or emailtickets@sfccmo.edu or call the Box Office at (660) 596-7387 from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or two hours prior to performance time. Wheelchair seating is available upon request.

The American Red Cross asks eligible donors to make an appointment to give blood to help ensure sufficient blood supplies are available for patients this holiday season.

Blood donations often decline during the holidays when donors get busy with travel and family gatherings, but the need for blood remains steady. Someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds. The next blood drive in Sedalia will be on 11/21/2014: 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Inter-State Studio, 3500 Snyder Ave. Eligible donors with all types are needed, especially those with O negative, A negative and B negative. International Angel Award winning vocalist and songwriter Jeff Hunt will be in concert.

It’ll be held at the SDA Church, 29525 Highway 50 on Thursday evening, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. Jeff is from Syracuse, New York, and is a former Heritage Singer and 3ABN artist. Bring the family and friends to hear Jeff’s vocal artistry, humor, passion and insights into the Christian Walk. For more information, contact 660-287-5849.

Artist Dustin Schmidt will have several pieces of art on display at the Liberty Center.

Theme of Dustin’s works, which will be available for sale, will be “Old Hollywood”. There will be 10 or 12 paintings of Hollywood’s former leading men and women. And, since they’re all done in shades of gray (much like what we’d call “black and white photos”), the group requests that everyone who attends the opening reception on November 21st (6-8pm) be dressed in black and white also. The Girl Scouts of Pettis County are hosting a Pink Party.

It’ll be held at the First United Methodist Church Celebration Center on Friday, November 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. They’ll have DIY spa treatments, photo booths, SWAPs, snacks, and more. Celebrate your self confidence, wear pink and join Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland to learn about the opportunities, fun and excitement Girl Scouts offers to girls. With Girl Scouts by her side, there’s a chance for every girl to do something amazing. All non-Girl Scouts in K-3 are welcome. Girls need to have an adult chaperon present during the event. The Johnson County Adult Literacy Program will have a Scrabble Tournament and Silent Auction.

It’ll be held on Saturday, November 22 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on East Business Route 50 in Warrensburg. All proceeds will benefit JCALP, a non profit organization providing tutoring for the Johnson County community.
