Here's a look at the events going on in our area this weekend. There will be a Veterans resource and health fair on Friday, June 20. 

The event will be held at the I-70 Community Hospital, 105 Hospital drive in Sweet Springs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Services offered will be health care, counseling and referrals, employment, training, and housing resources.  They’ll have food and refreshment, personal care items, haircuts and more available.  For more information or transportation to the event, contact 660-886-7476 ext 853 or email rayn@mvcaa.net

Nancey Dove’s Big Pink Party will be on Friday, June 20 at 5:00 p.m.

It’ll be held at the Green Ridge School.  They’ll have a pork chop dinner served by the Green Ridge Sports Teams and Coaches from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a cost of $10 for adults, and $5 for kids under 12.  Several vendors will have tables, and offer mystery awards.   There will also be a cake walk, specialty pink t-shirts will be available for $15 for all sizes.  The auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. If you’d like to help or get more information, call Nancy White at 660-221-6359.

Saturday, June 20 will be first Midwest Herofest. 

The 5th Annual Sedalia Local 103 Firefighter Memorial Ride will combine with a 5K run/walk on June 21.There will be activities for the kids, the Pettis County Fire department will be demonstrating the “Jaws of Life”, live music, concessions, car seat event, bicycle rodeo and more.  The Run and Ride will begin and end at Liberty Park.  It will be a 5k run and walk on Saturday, June 21. It’ll be at Liberty Park, 1500 West 3rd street, beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Registration can be done online at www.raceroster.com or by mailing in to Hero Fest, 6104 Blue Jay Blvd, Sedalia.  Registration fee is $25 before race day, and on race day it’s $30.  Registration fee includes commemorative t-shirt and challenge coin.  Registration the morning of the race will begin at 7:00 a.m.  Race begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.  The ride begins at Liberty Park and ends at Fitters with prizes awarded at 4:30 pm.  The ride leaves at 11 am, and all wheels are welcome, rain or shine. Breakfast will be available with proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club of Sedalia.  If you have any questions, contact the Sedalia Fire Headquarters at 826-4044.   Pre-registration and shirt are $15 each.  First 100 to register get a free pin.  Registration on the day of the event starts at 8 am and ends at 10:30 a.m., with the fee at $20.  roll  the dice at each location, top 3 and last total accumulative score at the end of the ride wins a cash prize.  For race information call Stefanie Sattler at 221-7792.  For Ride information, call Donnie Sattler at 221-6790.

There will be a radio controlled flying event presented by the Sedalia R/C Flyers.

It’ll  take place on June 21 from 10:00 a.m. until dusk with a rain date of June 28.  Admission is free, and the public is invited.  There is a pilot fee of $10, and there will be games and prizes.  It’s held at the Gate 9 on the Missouri State Fairgrounds on Clarendon Road.  Look for the sign.  Check out our website for more information at www.sedaliarcflyers.com

Dorene Johnson will hold a book signing.

Ms Johnson celebrates the nationwide release of her new memoir, “A Missing Piece of the Pie,” where she shares her personal story of finding about her past and her biological parents.  Ms Johnson will sign her book at Hastings, 723 N Charles St, in Warrensburg on Saturday, June 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Holy Cross Lutheran will host a Smoked Pork Drive-thru/Dine-in supper.
A smoked pork supper will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, JJ Highway Cole Camp, on Saturday, June 21 from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit children’s ministry projects. You can drive-thru: order right from your car and take your meal home or to the workers in the fields, etc.  Or you can dine-in: eat in the basement buffet style. All drive-thru orders are adult portion/price and include pork, baked beans, corn & homemade bread; choose from plain or posh mashed potatoes, coleslaw or applesauce, and a variety of pie. Advance tickets are $8 and are available at the Cole Camp Pharmacy and the main bank at the 4-way; or by contacting 660-287-5728. Adult tickets will be $9 day of dinner; children ages 5-12 can dine-in for $5.

The Evening Under the Stars will be held in Green Ridge Park.

There will be live music from Cedar Creek on Saturday, June 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  Come and dance or just listen to the music.  Free will donation, bring your own lawn chairs.  There will be a barbecue  meal in  the park,  serving from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.   The menu includes a pulled pork sandwich, hot dogs, chips, nachos, pop and bottled water.  Everyone is invited, no alcohol is served.  This is sponsored by the Green Ridge Chamber of Commerce.

The St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Cole Camp will be hosting its annual ice cream social Sunday Evening.

It’ll take place on June 22, with serving beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Entertainment will start at 7:00 p.m. You are invited to join the members of the St Paul’s for an evening of food, fun and fellowship.  Free will donations will benefit the St Paul’s  Crisis Fund and Dare to Dream.  St Paul’s is located at the corner of Hickory and Jefferson Street in Cole Camp.

The Mike Burkhalter Memorial Truck and Tractor pull will be on Sunday, June 22. 

The 24th annual Sanctioned Truck and Tractor Pull (MSTPA and MMTTPA rules apply) will begin at 7:00 p.m.  The gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the pit area opens at 2:30 p.m.  The cost for general admission is $12, pit admission is $15, kids 6-10 are $5 and under 6 years of age get in free.  The ticket booth will be open at 5:00 p.m. the day of the event. The Northside Christian Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary on June 22. 

They will have inflatables and activities for the family starting at 3:30 p.m.  A barbecue dinner will begin at 5:00 p.m. and “Worship Through the Decades” begins at 6:00 p.m.
