Here's a look at our weekend happenings! 

The Paul Klover Soccer Association will accept registration forms for the Late Summer Recreational Youth Soccer Leagues until July 31.

The teams will be formed in the first week of August.  Games begin the first week of September through mid-October.  Cost is $30 for youth not yet 8 years old by  July 31, and $60 for youth 8 to 17 years of age.  You may only register after July 31 if there are openings available and if you pay a late fee of $20.  Forms are available at Pummill’s Sporting Goods or at www.paulklover.com  For questions, please contact Paul Beard at 660-287-4117.

The Johnson County Fair will take place July 9 through 14 with the theme Country Roots and Cowboy Boots.

Bring the kids out for the carnival sessions.   On Tuesday evening they’ll have opening ceremonies and a youth pageant coronation at 7:30 p.m.  Wednesday is 4-H Achievement Day and open exhibits from 2:30 p.m to 6:30 p.m.  Thursday evening they’ll have professional bull riding at 7:30 p.m. and mutton bustin at 6:30 p.m.  On Friday evening they’ll have an ice cream social and 4-H/FFA Livestock sale.

Saturday form 6-8 p.m. there will be a community picnic with music by Crossfire.   It’s all you can eat hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by the Cattlemen’s Association with potato salad, slaw, beans, dessert and drinks.  Advance tickets are $8 for adults, kids 8 and under are $5.  At the door the prices go up two dollars.  All proceeds will help fund the Johnson County Fairgrounds.  The carnival has advance wristbands for sale for $15, at the fair the price is $20.  Advance tickets are available at Quarry City Savings & Loan, Elsberry Realty, BiLo Country Mart, Sunflower Bank of Leeton. There will also be a mud run at 6:00 p.m. and Rawhide Mounted Shooters at 7:00 p.m.  On Sunday the Shooters will return at 10:00 a.m. and at 3:00 p.m. the Johnson County Fair Horse Show will take place.   Visit www.johnsoncountyfairassociation.com for more information.

The Smithton Town & Country Fair will take place July 11 through July 13. 

The First events on Thursday are an Art, Home Economics, Creative Crafts, and Flower show at 9:00.  That evening there will be a parade at 6:30 p.m. and the Miss Pettis County Coronation with Children’s games and the Auctioneer’s Bid Contest.

On Friday, at 9:00 the Swine Show begins, followed by a Children’s Pedal Pull and Tractor Pull beginning at 7:00 p.m.  On Saturday, there will be a barbecue at the City Park beginning at 7:00 a.m.  Also on Saturday there will be a Beef/Sheep/Goat Show, Garden Tractor Pull, Pie Baking Contest, Ice Cream Freezing Contest, Baby Contest,  Children’s Games, the Super Farmer Contest, and Pig Dressing.   There will be concessions and commercial booths as well.  Exhibits will be in the  Multipurpose Room.

The 22nd Annual Benton County Rodeo will be July 12 and 13. 

The venue is located behind the Mini Mart on East Main street in Warsaw.  The start time each night is 8:00 p.m.  The queen and youth events start at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets for adults are $8 in advance, prices go up to $10 at the door.  Children 6-12 are admitted for a presale cost of $4, at the gate it goes up a dollar.  Under 6 get in for for free.  This is presented by the Shawnee Masonic Lodge #653.

Smithton will hold their first Project Graduation.

They’ll have a fundraising 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, July 13.  It’ll begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Smithton City Park.  Registration begins at 7:00 a.m.  Cost for adults is $10, children  12 years of age and younger are $5, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  If under 18, you must sign a waiver.  For more information, contact Cynthia at 660-553-0690.  All proceeds benefit the Smithton Class of 2014.

AnimalFAIR has dogs & puppies available for adoption.

Wild Heart will perform in concert on Saturday, July 13. 

They’ll be at the Arrow Rock State Historic Site on July 13 at 6:30 p.m.  Emmy award winning recording artists and conservationists Jan and George Syrigos bring the wonders of natural science to Arrow Rock as part of their summer tour of Missouri Parks and Historic Sites.  Hot Dogs and S’mores will be provided.

Classical pianist Katie Dake will present a piano concert at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

It’ll be on Sunday, July 14 at the Broadway Presbyterian Church, 209 West Broadway.  A reception will follow.  The concert will include secular and sacred music.  The concert is free as is the reception.
