Here's a look at what's going on in our area this weekend.

The Sedalia Public Library encourages all preschool -12th graders to participate in the Winter Reading Program.

The Mystery of Reading starts January 20 and ends February 17. Sign up in the Children’s Department, check out books from the Library and start reading for a chance to win one of the four mysterious Grand Prizes. The Pettis County Pachyderms will meet.

The program at the 12:00 P. M. Friday meeting of the Pettis County Pachyderm will be Doug Brown, Executive Director of the Sedalia Housing Authority. He will speak of improvements recently made in Sedalia’s public housing including vigorous enforcement of the tenant rules.The meeting is open to the public and is held at the State Fair Motor Inn, Best Western here in Sedalia.

Come join Sedalia Boy Scout Troop 66 and Pack 65 for an evening of delicious soup and chili with all the fixings.

Enjoy the competition between challengers in our chili/soup cook-off and help your favorite recipe to win the penny war. The winner receives a Cash prize and a trophy donated by STONE LASER IMAGING. All proceeds will assist Sedalia boy scouts to attend camp and other events on the way to Eagle. Tickets are available now for $3.00 (ages 3-10), $5.00 (11 and up) and under 3 eat free. Applewood Christian School is hosting a school carnival on January 31st, 5 to 8 pm.

It will consist of games, pie eating contests, and concessions. At 7 pm, all booths will close and an event where people pay to have people pied will being. This year’s theme is “The Land of Make Believe” and all booths will be themed with kid’s movies. Free tickets, for games, will be awarded to those who come dressed up as movie characters. The carnival will be at Applewood Christian School. The address is 25396 Highway O.

The Missouri Chapter of the Young Professionals Network is collecting all outdated and unused keys.

Keys will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities to fund their mission of helping families find hope and healing. The funding will help their family rooms, houses, care mobiles, grand programs and scholarships. Drop off any keys to the Remax office at 1435 Thompson Blvd.
