Here are some of the events going on this weekend in our area!

The world’s foremost mentalist, The AMAZING KRESKIN, makes his first ever Sedalia appearance this Saturday January 12th2013, 7pm, Liberty Center, 111 E. 5th St, Sedalia, MO in a benefit performance for Pledge4Patriots!

The Amazing Kreskin is best known for his signature stunt of finding his hidden paycheck during a performance — if he fails, he forfeits the fee! The vision and mission for this fundraising event is not only to help the homeless here in the Sedalia area, but to step up in support of local Sedalia boy, Lucas Luhrs, who needs life saving leukemia treatment. Pledge4Patriots will be working in conjunction with the Pettis County Community Partnership and pledge4patriots volunteer business venues in support of the cause.

Pledge4Patriots is a non-profit 501C3 organization, dedicated to serving first responders, active military, veterans and families (including the homeless, helpless, handicapped and spiritual needy) and supports the patriotic private institutions, that protect and procure the memoirs and artifacts of our forefathers, such as museums, amvets, and memorials.  For tickets, go to www.ticketriver.com or call (660) 221-3676 for information.  Join…Donate…Volunteer.  Please go towww.pledge4patriots.com and thank you!

Learn more about the Civil War’s impact upon Missouri and upon Sedalia at two new feature exhibits hosted by the Sedalia Katy Depot.

Sedalia was selected to host a traveling exhibit on Missouri and the Civil War. Missouri was a battlefield long before 1861 and had the second highest number of battles of any of the states.  It truly was a divided State.  The traveling exhibit was produced by the Missouri Historical Society and the Missouri Humanities Council and will be on display through Mid February 2013.   Highlights of the exhibit include four interactive electronic kiosks that uniquely connect the present to past experiences of the Civil War.  Missouri’s status as a border state forced many of its citizens to make difficult decisions and choose sides in a complex situation that resulted in a bitter, divisive, brutal, and psychological war within a war. Organized along four broad themes: the exhibit looks at the contest for the hearts, minds, and bodies of Missouri’s citizens; the complex issue of slavery in Missouri; the guerilla war that consumed Missouri during the period of the Civil War and the Union efforts to suppress that activity.

The Katy Depot’s 2013 annual feature exhibit, Sedalia and the Civil War produced by Becky Imhauser, shares the stories of how the Civil War impacted ten Sedalians in particular. This exhibit will be on display throughout 2013.  Exhibit hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Katy Depot will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for the New Year’s Holiday.

Here are some opportunities for Youth with the Central Missouri Electric Cooperative.
