To support local community projects, the Sedalia Rotary Club will host the 39thAnnual Sedalia Rotary Club Auction on Friday, April 12 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with food and beverage and live auction at 7:00 p.m.
Nearly 100 community professionals make up the Sedalia Rotary Club, joining with over 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide who strive to live the motto, “Service Above Self”. Auction proceeds and member volunteers have funded and supported literacy, educational excellence, the arts, housing, health and safety. Specifically, over the past couple years the Sedalia Rotary Club has funded thousands in area High School student scholarships, helped to fund a portion of the new cancer and cardiovascular care center at Bothwell Regional Health Center, donated to the Sedalia Symphony, Sedalia sports programs, Jr. High Choirs, various High School leadership activities, Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts of America, Open Door Ministries, CACTUS and the Community Santa Campaign. This year, the Sedalia Rotary Club Auction proceeds will support the Sedalia area schools BUDDY PACK PROGRAM, a program designed to provide backpacks full of nutritious food for children to take home over the weekend. Over 622 children in Sedalia area schools benefit from this program through The Food Bank. Raising money to aid in supporting local shelters and rescues and hoping to find our 4 legged friends ‘forever’ homes!
Along the route of this 5k in beautiful Knob Noster State park, you will have an opportunity to draw 5 cards and whomever has the best poker hand and the end of the event will win a prize valued at nearly $100!!! If you sign up BEFORE APRIL 1 you will guarantee yourself a t shirt, and a participation medal. Lots of fun to be had by all! Bring your friends, and your furry pets too! This is a walk, run, jog, crawl event. No time limit!
The Andrew Lloyd Webber production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be onstage at the historic Liberty Center Association for the Arts April 4-7 and 11-14, 2013.
Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at the Liberty Center, 111 West 5th Street in historic Downtown Sedalia or by calling (660) 826-2899. The show is an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical with lyrics by Tim Rice. This family-friendly story has a universal theme with upbeat music sung through the entire show. There is no spoken dialogue. On opening night, Thursday, April 4, the string students of Wilken Music will perform in the front lobby under the direction of Ms. Barbara Schrader. Wayne Bradley is the shows director, Ashley Cook is the Assistant Director. Britt Faaborg is the vocal director. Tickets to the show cost $12 each and can be purchase with a credit card by calling (660) 826-2899 or at the LCAA office, 111 West 5th Street Tuesday through Friday.
The Sedalia Parks and Recreation Department will have their annual Daddy and Me Date Night on Saturday, April 13.
It’ll be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. for a cost of $30 a couple; and $10 for each additional daughter. Little girls aged 3-12 and their Dad (or big brother, grandpa, etc) will enjoy a night of fun at Convention Hall with the theme of “Barbie Fashion”. The Carpe Diem Seize the Day Festival will be held April 13.
Carpe Diem is a festival to showcase teenager’s talents and give youth something fun to do. Some of the activities include performances from various Smith Cotton students, a chili cook off, a kid’s alley, an art show. Events will run from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in downtown Sedalia.
The Georgetown Community Club will have their all you can eat ham and bean supper.
It’ll take place at the Georgetown Community Club, 21031 Hwy H, Sedalia on Saturday April 13 from 4:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. The cost is $5 for an adult, and $2 for a child under the age of 12. Hot dogs and pie are also available for $1 each. For more information, call Flint Walton at 287-1983.
Moms on Mission will be having a few gatherings in the near future.
They’ll meet in 2013 on April 13 with a topic on Books for All Ages, and on May 11 for Pinterest Interest. Whether your kids are 2, 22 or 42, you’re invited. Our mission is to support, encourage, and pray for each other. We have fun and enjoy bringing Moms together. They’ll have snacks and door prizes as well as childcare provided for kids up to the age of 5. The Punchline Players at State Fair Community College will present improv comedy shows at 7:30 p.m. April 13 and May 11 in the Thompson O’Sullivan Studio Theatre in the Yeater Learning Center on the Sedalia campus.
The shows are free; no tickets are required. Shows are for mature audiences only. The seven comics, at the mercy of the audience, perform short scenes in the style of the television show, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” Members include Heather Hill, Sarah Hill and Anthony Alverez, Versailles; Devin Ersery, Kansas City; Bryce Brewer, Stover; Stephen Klee, Warrensburg; and James Sheppard, Knob Noster. Special guests will be the Flatliners improv troupe from Missouri Valley College.
