The City of Sedalia will be conducting its Yard of the Month contest for the months of May, June and July.

According to Joleigh Melte, Executive Administrative Assistant, the 2016 "Way to Grow Sedalia Yard of the Month Contest" is pretty simple to enter. To qualify, you must have a yard that is well maintained, nice house numbers, but flowers are optional.

Judgments will be made from the curbside and the Mayor's office will place a sign, each month, into the yard of whomever wins. Linda Nau, Show-Me Master Gardener and member of the Fair City Garden Club, explains that entering not only shows off your yard, but the City of Sedalia. Gift certificates to winners have doubled this year from the previous $25 to $50.

Marilyn Danko, President of the Show-Me Master Gardeners, also invites the community to shop the city's Annual Plant Sale this Saturday, May 7, from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m, on Thompson Blvd at the Missouri Extension Service. The prices are very reasonable on perennials and native plants and some trees will be given for free. All proceeds from this sale will go toward maintaining the gardens at Katy Depot, the Liberty Center and Maple Leaf Garden.

If you're a Sedalia resident and would like to enter the Yard of the Month contest, you can go to the official website for Sedalia to fill out an application.
