With temperatures and wind chill values well below zero today and expected to last through noon on Wednesday, trash pickup has been canceled in Sedalia for Tuesday, January 16, and is expected to begin later than normal on Wednesday, January 17.

The City of Sedalia says the current weather conditions are cause for worker safety concerns for those riding on the back of garbage and recycling trucks as wind chill
values may cause frost bite to exposed skin or hypothermia within less than 30 minutes.

Trash crews will begin picking up Tuesday’s route on Wednesday mid-morning, as soon as temperatures allow. For those residences with pick-up scheduled on Wednesday, those residences south of 16th Street will be picked up on Wednesday. Those residences with pick-up scheduled on Wednesday and living north of 16th Street will be picked up on Thursday.

The City says that Thursday and Friday pick-up will be on the normal days.
