Sedalia School District 200 Scores 91.1% on Performance Report

Sedalia School District 200 scored 91.1 percent on the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s 2016 Annual Performance Report (APR); the score designates the district as fully accredited and is an improvement of 0.7 percent over the previous year.

According to DESE, “APR uses multiple measures and multiple years of data to provide an accurate and meaningful look at districts and charter schools.” Sedalia 200 is among the 98.6 percent of Missouri schools that scored 70 percent or more on the APR.

Sedalia 200’s score indicates improvement in key areas of preparing students for success after high school. APR is part of the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP5), the state’s accountability system to ensure that districts are promoting continuous improvement on graduation rates, attendance and college and career readiness.

Sedalia 200’s scores improved in three key areas – academic achievement, advanced placement, and college and career readiness – while two categories (graduation rate and attendance) remained at the same level as 2015. The only decline was in subgroup achievement, which dipped just a half point.

While APR criteria and measurements changed from 2014 to 2016 along with Missouri Learning Standards benchmarks, Sedalia 200’s higher score remains meaningful. In the statewide census on ACT, Sedalia 200 went up a full point with the average student score increasing from 18.4 to 19.4.

Superintendent Brad Pollitt said: “We are very pleased with our score, which is the result of hard work by our teachers, students and administrators. Our students take pride in ownership of their education and are striving to give themselves the best opportunities possible for life after high school.”

Pollitt acknowledged there is more work to be done. District teachers and administrators continue to collaborate to find the best methods to engage today’s students. Emphasis also has been placed on improving student attendance district-wide.

“We know students perform better when they are in class regularly, and we attribute our APR gains in part to the emphasis we have placed on improved attendance,” Pollitt said.

The average APR score statewide was 90; Pollitt and his team are pleased that Sedalia 200 exceeded that mark.
“The APR score is another indication of the great things that are happening in Sedalia School District 200,” Pollitt said. “We have high academic standards, and both our co-curricular and athletic programs provide opportunity for student growth. We are blessed right now with the whole package of success within our district.”
