There's an old proverb that tells us that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.  While that adage might be old fashioned when it comes to modern, progressive romance, it's still true when it comes to raising money.  Sedalia likes food, dadgummit, and we like to raise money for charities and good causes while we're eating it.

So here's a look at some fundraisers and charity events coming up that involve food and desserts.  Stuff yourself silly for a great cause!

The Pettis County Women’s Democrat Club will have their annual Ice Cream Social.

It will take place on Thursday, July 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion, 2016 West Main.  They’ll have hot dog or chili dog, dessert, ice cream, and a drink for a price of $5 for adults.  Children 6 and under eat for free.

The Smithton United Methodist Church will have a Fish Fry.

The Men's Group will host an All You Can Eat Fish Fry on Saturday, July 27 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Adults $10 and children under 7 are free.  They'll have fried catfish, fried potatoes, baked beans, cornbread, iced tea, lemonade and water.  The event will take place at the Smithton United Methodist Church at 300 South Walnut in Smithton.

The New Bethel United Methodist Church of South 65 Highway will have an Ice Cream Social.

It’ll take place at the church, south on 65 Highway, just south of Anderson School Road, on Saturday, July 27.  They’ll serve ice cream, cake or pie with a drink for $4 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  They’ll also have a hot dog or chili dog for an additional cost.

Over 56,000 area kids can get free school lunches.  When school is out, so are their chances for a square meal.  Here’s how you can help.

Give $1 or more when you shop at both Bings East and West, or the Woods in Sedalia.  Every $1 provides a meal for 12 hungry kids.  Your dollar makes all the difference!  Your donations will be accepted through August 11 for the Buddy Pack Program.

The 27th Annual Les Webb Memorial Breakfast will take place on August 3.

They’ll meet from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. for a $10 donation.  They’ll serve steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, Bloody Mary’s, coffee, milk and orange juice.  It’ll take place at the Sedalia Shrine Club, supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children.  Take out and delivery orders are available, call Pat at 620-2939 for more information.

The 7C’s Mead Fest will be on August 25 at the 7c’s Winery.

They will have live music by Rowan’s Crossing, a costume contest, free wine and mead tasting, and demonstrations by the SCA/Shire of Oakheart.  Also appearing will be Gypsy Sol and Project Vagabound, Birds of Prey with Dickenson Park Zoo, and Ozark Beekeepers.  Turkey Legs and barbecue will be available from Smokeshack BBQ.  The address of the Winery is 502 E 560th Road, Walnut Grove.  Call 417-788-2263 for more information or go to 7cswinery.com.

Now you know, so get out there and get your grub on!

Nutritionally yours,

Behka
