A Sedalia man was killed in an accident October 20 in Cole County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 49-year-old Michael D. Poindexter was ejected from a 2005 Honda VT750 after it was struck by a Hyundai Elantra that crossed Highway 50 and pulled into its path. Poindexter was pronounced dead at the scene around 8:40 p.m.

The driver of the Elantra, 21-year-old Kin Darius Patterson of Jefferson City, suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Patterson was arrested for involuntary manslaughter, no valid license, and failure to yield. He was taken to the Cole County Jail. A passenger in the Elantra was not injured. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene.

The incident was the third fatality in the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop F region for October, and the 61st in the region for 2018.
