A Sedalia man is facing charges of first degree assault and child abuse following an investigation by the Sedalia Police Department.

According to a press release from the Sedalia Police Department, authorities received a call from Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri on March 18 in reference to a case of child abuse. The hospital reported there was a 5-month old child in their facility with apparent signs of child abuse. The report also stated the injuries to the child were consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Following an extensive investigation by a detective with the Sedalia Police Department, the father of the child, 20-year-old William D. Harris, was arrested on Monday (March 24) and transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Harris is currently in the Pettis County Jail pending a $200,000 bond on charges of child abuse and first degree assault.
