Sedalia Council Approves $4.2 Million Bid for New Police Station
The Sedalia City Council approved a $4.2 million bid on a new police station from Septagon Construction Co., Inc.
Septagon was the lowest of six bidders on the project, which will be a two-story, 18-000-square-foot facility in the 200 block of South Kentucky, where the remaining buildings were leveled Tuesday morning. The cost is estimated at $4,220,000. Construction is expected to begin right away. The vote was 7 yes, one absent.
Also, the Public Works Department received two bids for polymer for the Wastewater Treatment Plant from Fort Bend Services and Hawkins. Fort Bend was recommended to be awarded the contract.
The City will see a price reduction from the current cost of $706.50 per 55-gallon barrel to $572.50. This will save the Water Pollution Control an annual savings of $7,100, it was reported.
The Council also approved a memorandum of understanding by and between the City of the Fraternal Order of Police Mid-Missouri Lodge 16.
The Council also passed an ordinance authorizing the delivery of Series 2017B Certificates of Participation.
A north-south and east-west alley was vacated between 2nd and 3rd Street, east of Lamine.
Four new liquor licenses were approved, three of which pertain to downtown Sedalia’s upcoming win stroll. The fourth one was for Jerry McGuire’s, 3501 W, Broadway, for Liquor by the Drink ($450). Sacred Heart Church renewed their license for an upcoming temporary event (Sacred Heart Bazaar) for $15.
Outgoing City Administrator Gary Edwards and Interim Administrator Kelvin Shaw were both absent from Monday night’s meeting, as was City Councilwoman Jo Lynn Turley.
Also absent Monday night were the recipients of the City’s service awards, including Officer Travis Lorenz and Sergeant Aaron Berry (10 years with the Sedalia Police Department), and Senior Equipment Operator Dustin Connell (five years with the Sanitation Department).
