Grant Maledy, Director of Bands for the Sedalia 200 School District, stopped by the studio to let us know about the upcoming Big Band Dance.

The Big Band Dance consists of an evening of swing dancing in the Smith Cotton High School cafe, April 29 from 7 PM – 9 PM, while hearing all types of big band music. From small groups to big groups and even some faculty groups playing.

Jazz swing tunes, Latin music and rock will be played by the Junior High Jazz Band, High School Jazz One and High School Jazz Two bands. A silent auction will be held, as well as dance instruction during parts of the Big Band Dance. Grant says that for anyone who knows nothing about Swing or Waltz types of dancing, this will be a great learning experience.

In the past, The Big Band Dance offered a meal, but this year desserts will be served. The cost to attend is only five dollars per person with proceeds going to benefit the bands. Advanced tickets can be purchased from any band student, at the front desk at the High School, you can give Grant Maledy a call at  660-851-5366, or you can pay your five dollars at the door.
