The Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival begins today. Volunteers are needed to assist with setup and teardown for this year's event. The festival starts at the SFCC Stauffacher Center and continues in downtown Sedalia Thursday through Saturday.

"The Civil Air Patrol is down at the Fox Theater and the courthouse, at the intersection of Fifth and Ohio streets, setting up the stage and chairs," Staci Harrison, United Way Executive Director said. "If people want to join in, they could use the help. They will be there until about 2 p.m."

Teardown is scheduled from 2:45 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 at the Fox Theater and the courthouse.

"The more hands that you have on deck, the quicker the job goes and it's just that much more enjoyable," Harrison said.

The sixth annual Queen of the Prairies Festival of the Arts is occurring in conjunction with the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival this year. Queen of the Prairies takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4 in downtown Sedalia.
