Sacred Heart Seeking Your Vote For $100,000 Grant
A new bus would have been a godsend for Sacred Heart School last month, as students were left temporarily stranded on I-70 in the wee morning hours after a breakdown when traveling home from Worlds of Fun’s Spookfest.
It appears Sacred Heart may have found an answer to their prayers.
Sacred Heart is one of only 100 schools across the nation to be named as a finalist in the State Farm Celebrate My Drive contest, and is in the running for a $100,000 grant.
Winning schools will be chosen based on the results of an online voting process. Sacred Heart is urging community members to log on to www.celebratemydrive.com and vote daily between November 9 – 13, 2015.
Sacred Heart Student Council members launched a week-long series of activities to educate its students on the importance of safe and focused driving through State Farm's “Drive 2N2” campaign, which promotes driving with two eyes on the road and two hands on the wheel.
The 22 schools who receive the most votes will be awarded the $100,000 grand prize. Eligible voters must be 14 years or older to participate and are allowed to vote once per day.
Our students and faculty have worked hard to spread the word about safe driving, and we are proud that are being recognized,” said Dr. Gary Manning, SHS administrator. “The challenge ahead is that Sacred Heart will be competing for votes against schools much larger than ours. It’s going to be our students, parents, community members and alumni coming together to vote for us. A portion of the grant money must support safe driving. Our top priority for the grant money is to purchase a school bus, so we appreciate all the support we can get.”
