Brett Young Stuns With Emotional ‘Hallelujah’ Cover for RISERS [Watch]

“Hallelujah” is one of the most frequently covered songs in the entire musical lexicon, but Brett Young practically reinvented it when he performed a stellar version of the song for Taste of Country’s RISERS.

Young’s searing performance of “Hallelujah” was one of the very brightest spots of a day filled with musical highlights when he unveiled it on the set of the 2017 RISERS shoot in Nashville in early February.

Accompanying himself on acoustic with minimal embellishment from another guitarist, Young stripped away all pretense to deliver a vulnerable vocal performance that was raspy, yet somehow so achingly pure that even the battle-hardened, seen-it-all Nashville technicians on the set stood silently transfixed at his performance.

“Hallelujah” has been covered countless times since Leonard Cohen wrote and released it in 1984. It’s hard to stand out on a song so well known, but Young brings a unique interpretation that accomplished the seemingly impossible task of erasing the other versions from your mind as he sings, so strong is his relatability and sense of storytelling.

Young carries an indefinable star presence that was apparent from the moment he walked in the backstage door, before he even sang a note on the RISERS stage. It’s that “it” factor that earned him a distinction as one of the RISERS Class of 2017, and fans everywhere are latching onto it for themselves. Young scored his second No. 1 hit with “In Case You Didn’t Know” in June, and his exclusive RISERS performance of that career-making hit has reached nearly a million views on YouTube. The breakout star is currently on the road supporting Lady Antebellum on their You Look Good Tour.

We’ll be unveiling more exclusive RISERS covers from Aubrie Sellers, Runaway June, Jacob Davis, Farewell Angelina and Brandon Lay over the weeks to come, so stay tuned!
