Randy Travis made a rare public appearance this week, marking one of the few times the country legend has been seen in public since his stroke last year.

Travis and his fiancee, Mary Davis, turned up at a banquet and fundraiser for the Four Rivers Outreach in Texas on Thursday (Sept. 18). According to its website, "Four Rivers is one of the largest nonprofit, faith-based organizations in Grayson County, providing both residential and non-residential programs for men and women who have life-controlling problems such as alcohol, drug abuse and homelessness."

Larry Gatlin was also in attendance at the fundraiser.

Travis did not want to speak on camera, as he is still recovering from his stroke, but Davis tells local news station KXII that he is still making progress, after she says doctors told her to pull the plug on him when he was at his worst.

"He's not even bedridden anymore," she relates. "He's been through the wheelchair phase of it and just today they took his cane from him and gave him a walking stick, so it's one more weaning process."
