Rainy Weekend Predicted

Mother nature may have held out for the Whiteman Corridor Ceremonies, but rain is expected off and on for the remainder of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

ISOLATED TO SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE  DAY ON SATURDAY. OCCASIONAL CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING WILL BE
POSSIBLE.

STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE THIS EVENING  AND OVERNIGHT...PRIMARY ALONG AND WEST OF ROUTE 65. LARGE HAIL AND  STRONG DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH ANY STORMS THAT ACHIEVE  SEVERE LIMITS. ADDITIONALLY...AN ISOLATED TORNADO OR TWO CANNOT BE  RULED OUT ACROSS PORTIONS OF EASTERN KANSAS AND NW MISSOURI.

 

"Pettis County is right on the edge of a slight risk (15% Chance or scattered severe storms possible)," said Sedalia/Pettis County EMA Director David Clippert. "We do not have a tornado threat, but high winds (58 MPH or higher) and large hail (1 inch or about the size of a quarter or larger). Again we are right on the outside edge of this risk area. There is expected to be quite a bit of lightening in these storms, which isn't a severe category. Time frame is afternoon into the evening hours.  If travelling west today they have a much higher risk of severe weather including tornados."

The severe weather has caused the Smith-Cotton graduation ceremony to be moved indoors to the Mathewson Exhibition Center tonight (May 16) at 7.
