According to Sedalia-Pettis County Emergency Management Agency Director, Dave Clippert, Sedalia and the surrounding area could be in the path of a potential ice storm.

Clippert states we could start to see snow on late Thursday evening into early Friday morning and lasting until early Friday evening. Right now that appears to be less than an inch of snow.

Late Friday night temperatures may drop into the high 20’s and we will see the beginning of freezing rain. The heaviest of the freezing rain will come be from around 11 PM Friday to 5 AM Saturday. We could see freezing rain until Sunday late morning. It is possible we could see close to 7/10th of an inch of ice. Not necessarily a catastrophic amount, but enough that we see some wide spread power outages.

Conditions could change between now and the weekend, but it's always better to prepare. Here are some tips to follow pertaining to the possible impending weather-
· Most likely you already have food in your house. Make sure you have non-perishable food with a manual can opener.
· Make sure you have bottled water and don’t forget the pets. About a gallon a day for 3 days for each person.
· Blankets
· If possible a heat source to stay warm, but be very careful about carbon monoxide poisoning. Do not run generators inside and that includes the garage. Do not bring in outdoor grills

Sunday afternoon we will start to see temps climb back into the mid to upper 30’s.

If power is out it could be awhile depending upon how badly the ice storm hits us. Power crews from KCP&L, Central Mo Electric and Ameren will be out and doing everything possible to get the power back up, so please be patient.
